Prairie Plein Air Artists

July 1^st or 2^nd (Saturday or Sunday)- Paint On Your Own!  Pick a location(s) you like, invite a fellow PPAA artist to join you in plein air painting!!! Due to it being the ” 4th of July weekend” no group paint out!

The home in south Bismarck is set back off the road to the west in the trees on a gravel driveway. They have 7 acres of Missouri River bottom land with mature trees. The property is nicely landscaped, flowers and trees abound. 

June 15th (Thursday)- George Boyd Rotary Arboretum, 1349 Ward Rd, at Tom O’Leary Golf Course- Bismarck. – 6:00PM to 8:30PM –. The Arboretum is in the northwest corner of the golf course near the intersection of College Dr and Ward Rd. To access the arboretum ,you will need to park in the parking lot and walk east across Ward Rd to the walking trail and entrance to the Arboretum. Recommend not parking on Divide Ave very risky.  Bismarck High School Art Club will be invited to paint along with us.

June 8 & 9 (Thursday & Friday) – Medora, ND – Theodore Roosevelt National Park – Day 1-Artists are invited to come to Medora and paint were ever you choose in Theodore Roosevelt National Park (you will need a park pass). At the end of Day1 we plan to meet at 7:30PM Central Time  (6:30PM MT) at Boots Bar & Grill in Medora for supper and to plan where we will paint on day 2. NOTE: If you are staying overnight on Tuesday you are responsible for arranging for your own lodging for Tuesday night. If you unable to come for two days feel free to join us for one day. Make it a day trip!

To start our 2023 plein air season we are doing something new!. We challenge members to “Paint Your Backyard”. Paint either or both days. This will give you the opportunity to test you equipment and for the new members to get familiar with painting outside!

PPAA members will have a show, in the storefront display area at Lifeless Art – 214 W “Main St, Mandan, ND June 10 to 11th. This is in conjunction with their “Vendors Show” which takes place at the same time as Mandan’s big ” Buggies and Blues” celebration!

Have you wanted to try painting “en plein air”, but did not know where to start? Here is your chance May 2nd, 2023 from 5:30 to 8:00PM, when Prairie Plein Air Artists together with Bismarck Arts and Galleries Association will conduct a starters workshop. You may choose the medium you wish to try, Oil, Acrylic or Watercolor. The cost is $30.00 and includes all supplies. You will cover history, materials to use, how to start, and will paint your own painting! Contact BAGA online or call at 701-223-5986.

Prairie Plein Air Artists members will have an exhibit at the Bismarck Downtown Artist Cooperative Gallery at 222 N 4th St, Bismarck, ND. The exhibit will start with a reception on October 7th from 5:30PM to 8:00PM and continue to October 29th. Enjoy the show!

September 21^st (Wednesday)- Missouri River from Mandan side, 5:00PM to 7:30PM – Location is on the north side of the interstate and east of the Mandan archery range. If coming from Bismarck on Interstate 94 take exit 153 (the refinery exit). Turn south on Mandan Ave (go under interstate) go past the onramp entrance and take the next road (east) Division St NE, in a block or two take a left (north) on River Dr. NE which will take you north under the Interstate again. Stay on River Dr NE until you pass the archery range then continue to drive east to the river there will be a small parking area there. Or you can come from the east Main Mandan Burger King and head north on Mandan Ave to get to Division St as well.

Due to getting rained out this week we are going to retry Ft Lincoln. September 13^th Tuesday) – Ft Lincoln State Park, 4480 Fort Lincoln Rd, Mandan-Meet in visitors parking lot- 5:00PM to 7:30PM
